Given I started my Silver Wheel program this year, it’s perhaps unsurprising that I adore the symbolism of The Wheel of Fortune.
The Wheel of Fortune offers insight into the cyclical nature of life, the unpredictability of fate, and the role of karma in shaping our destiny; boi, if this isn’t my wheelhouse (pun intended), I don’t know what is.
I love observing how our seasons change, the moon cycles every month, and even how the sun rises and falls daily. Our rhythms inform so much of our lives, and while some are out of our control, there are even more aspects we might influence. From our daily schedules, routines, and habits, to how we honor anniversaries and birthdays, we can honor and tweak our energetic rhythms in many ways. We also have the power to break free from cycles and patterns that no longer serve us.
I love creating intentional moments to express and reflect on our cycles so that I can empower myself to step out of the status quo and into my authenticity! Now, I create rituals like that for others so they can powerfully and potently get present to where they want to go!
The Wheel of Fortune is a card that reminds us what goes around comes around, so what do you want to put out there in the world?
Symbolism & Interpretations
The Wheel of Fortune is typically depicted as a large wheel, divided into several sections, with figures riding on it and others falling off. At the top of the wheel is a figure holding a sword or scepter, representing power, authority, and the ability to control one’s destiny. At the bottom of the wheel, there is a figure falling off, representing the unpredictable and often uncontrollable nature of fate. The other figures on the wheel are in various stages of ascent or descent, representing the ups and downs of life.
One of the key symbols in the Wheel of Fortune tarot card is the sphinx, which is often depicted sitting at the top of the wheel. The sphinx is a symbol of mystery, wisdom, and the ability to see beyond the surface of things. In this context, it suggests that understanding the cycle of life and the forces of fate requires a deeper level of insight and understanding.
Another important symbol in the Wheel of Fortune is the four creatures that appear in the corners of the card. These creatures represent the four elements – earth, air, fire, and water – and suggest that the forces of nature are intimately connected to the cycle of life and the movement of the wheel.
